Say Whoa! to Motorized Recreation in the Castle

Tell Jason Kenney Whoa! to motorized recreation in the Castle.

Even though both the public and conservation science strongly support the elimination of motorized recreation in the Castle, the Government of Alberta put the phase out of OHVs on hold.

After an extensive and exhaustive review of the conservation science, and after the largest public consultation in Alberta’s history, the Castle Management Plan (CMP) was finalized in May 2018.

One very important provision of the CMP is the complete phase out of off-highway vehicles (OHVs) in the Castle. Motorized recreation is incompatible with park values, and has no place in the Castle Parks.

Unfortunately, even though both the conservation science and the public input strongly support the elimination of motorized recreation in the Castle, the Kenney Government put the phase out of OHVs on hold.

The government then directed the Livingstone-Porcupine Hills Recreational Advisory Group (LPH RAG) to look at ways to integrate motorized trails in the Castle with other motorized trails in the region.

The LPH RAG is the wrong group with the wrong membership to be considering changes in the Castle.

The CCWC strongly objects to any continuing OHV use in the Castle, and to the LPH RAG having any input into management decisions in the Castle.

Tell Jason Kenney Whoa! to Motorized Recreation in the Castle

Ask Jason Kenney to implement the Castle Management Plan as written, including the complete phase out of off-highway vehicles.

Please send the same message to the Minister of AEP, Jason Nixon; MLA for Livingstone-Macleod Roger Reid; and your own MLA.
