Nowadays, you might say that cellphones are cameras that can also be used to make phone calls.

Today’s cellphone cameras are amazing devices that, when used with intention, can make photos that rival those taken with any other camera system. Cellphone cameras are small, lightweight, capable of taking great photos, and always with you. What’s not to like?

The CCWC will also unveil an exciting new “Photo Stewardship” initiative that will encourage Castle Park stewardship through photography.

Workshop Overview

A hands-on, structured workshop combining cellphone photography, composition techniques, and nature appreciation. Participants will learn to capture meaningful images while exploring the Castle Parks, with a focus on empowerment and storytelling through photography.

Workshop Format

  • Short, interactive modules covering key photography topics
  • Guided outdoor and indoor practice depending on the weather
  • Final hour dedicated to image review, constructive feedback, and basic editing

Topics Covered

  • Camera Basics: Resolution, focus, exposure, gridlines
  • Composition: Line, shape, form, proportion, perspective, balance, rule of thirds, framing, simplicity
  • Lighting: Natural vs. artificial light, understanding direction
  • Editing: Built-in mobile tools, Snapseed basics

Workshop Goals

  • Teach participants to effectively use their cellphone cameras
  • Improve storytelling through photography
  • Empower participants to document and engage with natural spaces
  • Encourage ongoing engagement with the Castle Parks through photography
